These guys don’t claim to be black belts in an art that doesn’t have a ranking system, nor are there tests to move you up to a next level in order to be allowed to go to sparring. Its all levels at high intensity come rain or shine and you are the one making the decision if you are ready for this. Everyone is pushing hard, themselves and each other. The workouts are tough but well rounded, always ending with a stretching session.

What I experienced that first night was an experience I probably won’t forget

I first starting training with David, the head instructor at OC Muay Thai, about five years ago.  Before that time, I practiced martial arts on and off (mostly off) throughout the years, including some kickboxing schools, which professed to teach Muay Thai.  Now, by no means were those schools bad, but something about them felt off to me.

For one thing, those schools would often separate the workout/cardio classes from the actual kickboxing/Muay Thai classes, so there always felt like a disjoint between exercise and practice.  As someone who has a hard time getting motivated, I only found myself attending one or the other, but never both. Hey, given a choice between “Playstation” or “Push-Ups”, the answer is obvious for a natural-born couch potato!
