What to bring

What to bring

At OC Muay Thai we train 2X per day for 2 hours at a time in Muay Thai. To be prepared to train at OC Muay Thai you will need a minimum amount of equipment to train effectively, safely and cleanly.

What to bring:

Don't worry about not having any of the gear listed. We have rentals
 available for you to use.

You are also welcome to bring your own equipment or you can purchase all the gear listed at OC Muay Thai.

Rentals are also available. We got you covered.

  • Pair of Sparring Gloves 16oz
16 oz gloves are used for sparring sessions in Muay Thai.

    Leather or Vinyl?
Leather...why because as a general rule of thumb these are made with higher quality materials which means safer for you and your training partner.

Don't buy vinyl! These are just cheap imitation of boxing gloves and are not safe to use. Example...Everlast

To prevent the spread of bacterial infections like staph and ringworm it is recommended you thoroughly clean your gloves inside and out with bleach/water or anti-bacterial solution after each training session.

Keep your gear clean and enjoy your training.

  • Bag Gloves
We use bag gloves for bag work and pad work. Bag gloves teach you proper hand alignment. Which in turn prevents your hands from breaking. Using "Sparring gloves" for pad/bag work develops bad habits. Hence the name "Bag Gloves"

Leather or Vinyl?
Leather...why because as a general rule of thumb these are made with higher quality materials which means safer for you.

  • Hand Wraps
You will need a fresh clean pair of hand wraps for each training session. Recommendation: Purchase yourself atleast 2 pair.

Please bring clean wraps. By setting them outside to dry won't do the job. You need to wash them with water & bleach solution. Or get yourself a lingerie bag and toss your wraps in the bag into the washing machine. If you put them in the dryer you will end up with a huge knot mess. Just air dry them.

  • What style of hand wraps?
Only get Mexican style. These are the best out there. The reason is they laydown much easier then a classic weave or chevron style.
We have these available and all gear for sale.

  • Muay Thai shorts
You will need muay thai shorts for training. By setting them outside to dry won't do the job. You need to wash them with water & bleach solution.

  • Nylon or Satin?
I can't believe that people sell the satin shorts for training. These are for fight night. Not for training. They fall apart after one session.

"How can I tell the difference?"
Easy...if they look fancy and real shiny. They are fight night shorts. If they look plain and made from nylon and are cheaper. They are training shorts.

Please have respect for people you are training with. Please wash your shorts and have fresh pair of shorts for every training session. If you cant find them we have these available to buy.

  • Shin Guards
We use shin guards for sparring. These protect your shins from getting banged up.

Please have respect for people you are training with. Please wash your gear for every training session. If you cant find them we have these for sale.

  • Mouth piece
    Gotta have one for sparring.

  • Groin Guard
Prefer metal over plastic. The reason for metal over plastic. A knee strike to the groin can shatter plastic. Be safe.

  • Running shoes
We train outside from running to jumping rope.

  • Towel
So you can use our Steam room and Showers. Nothing feels better than after a hard training session than to take relax in the steam room and taking that needed shower. Enjoy yourself.

You are welcome to bring your own equipment or buy equipment from our shop.

Here is a cleaning tip. Use a ratio of 5:1 mixture of water & bleach. Another option is water & rubbing alcohol to sanitize your gear and clothing. Get yourself a spray bottle and spray away with this mixture. Just spray and wipe!

WHAT NOT TO BRING:

No personal valuables should be brought to the OC Muay Thai Training Center. This would include jewelry, ipods, cd/mp3 players, cameras, computers, and any good clothing. In the atmosphere of a training center where there are so many people, people tend to forget, lose track of, or misplace many things.
